About
Gloriant brings European plays to intimate settings. We treat the people who make the work with care and honor the creative process. Passion carries a production further than anything else. Each show is built to last beyond its opening run, with the story first.
The name
Gloriant takes its name from the hero of one of the abele spelen, the earliest surviving secular plays in the Dutch language, written down around 1410.
In Antwerp, on the left bank of the Scheldt, the streets are named for medieval Dutch literature, and one of them carries his name: De Gloriantlaan. A paving stone on that street is inscribed with the play's moral, and we have taken it as ours.
Conceit is never praised.
Team
Max Renaerts
Max founded Gloriant to bring theater to the stages of his adopted city. Born in Belgium and based in New York, he has been drawn to live entertainment since the first show he saw as a child. In three years in New York, he has seen more than 140 shows. He works directly with the playwrights, agents, and rights holders behind the work. He holds an MBA from Boston University, serves on the steering committee at New York City Center, and is a member of Theater Resources Unlimited.
Danny Navidad
Danny advises the company on strategy and operations, and is often its first reader. A program manager specializing in learning and development, he spent eight years at Block before joining Mercury, and is completing his MBA at NYU Stern School of Business. He brings an operator's eye to how Gloriant plans, decides, and grows.
